Mobile Phone Location Tracking via Advertising IDs
All of us have had the experience of downloading an app to our phone, scrolling quickly past the disclosures to start using the app. What you might not understand is that the disclosures allow the apps to legally sell your data to private investigators.
The data we are now able to track is an advertising ID that loads onto phones and personal devices alongside most apps. This ID records the device’s location every time an app is used. We are able to overlay the lat/long coordinates onto a map to disclose where people have been and at what time and date without needing a disclosure request from the device owner.
What this means for our clients:
- We can track plaintiffs to see if they may have stopped at a bar before their traffic accident occurred
- We can develop witnesses to accidents by tracking the device ids that were present at the accident time/location regardless of whether or not they stopped to provide their information
- During incidents where violence occurred in a crowd, we can develop the identities of the device owners in the crowd at the time of the incident
- We can track levels of activity for injured workers on severe activity restrictions
- We can locate flight risks if they have indeed attempted to disappear

The applications are endless. We are pleased to offer this service to our clients and help bring this data into discussions about liability and ongoing injury. To learn more about this service, please visit our Services page.
